Surprising infrastructure in Bulgaria

Bulgaria has a relatively well-developed transport structure: two deep-sea ports (Burgas and Varna), four airports, a functioning railway network with container terminals in Sofia, Burgas and Russe and several inland ports along the Danube. However, most transport in Bulgaria is by road. Bulgaria's motorway network is still under construction. To date, just under 650 km of the planned 1200 kilometres of motorway have been completed. The planning includes numerous tunnels, among other things. Although Bulgaria has been busy building motorways so far, the economic crisis and misuse of subsidies are not only slowing down Bulgaria's infrastructural development.
